Spent $60 on a noise-canceling earbuds for my commute and now I can actually hear my audiobooks without rewinding every time the subway screeches
Three days in and my blood pressure is way down because I'm not shouting at people on their speakerphones anymore, has anyone else dropped cash on something small that made a huge mental difference?

...and honestly I'm not sure it's that deep? Like yeah noise cancelling is nice and all but $60 for a blood pressure drop feels like you're really putting a lot on those earbuds. I mean the subway is loud sure but is it really the main source of your stress or is it just the thing you're blaming right now? People have been commuting for decades without fancy earbuds and somehow survived, you know? I guess if they help that's cool but maybe don't give them all the credit for your mental health.

Hold up a second - I gotta push back on the idea that $60 is a small deal for noise cancelling earbuds. If you're getting a noticeable drop in blood pressure and less stress on the subway, that's not "putting a lot on them" - that's just being honest about what works for you. People have survived without them sure, but we've also survived without air conditioning and modern medicine, doesn't mean we should go back. Sometimes a cheap fix like this is exactly what you need to stop a tiny frustration from snowballing into a bad day. You're not blaming the subway for everything, you're just saying these earbuds help you handle one specific part of your commute better. Isn't it worth $60 to not feel like screaming on your way to work?
