That one line in a patch note saved me from a nasty breach at work
Was reading through some security patch notes last Wednesday for our firewalls and there was this tiny mention about a remote code execution vulnerability in the logging module. I ignored it at first but something felt off so I checked our logs and sure enough we had 8 failed exploit attempts on that exact module from two weeks ago. Has anyone else ever had a close call just because they skimmed a patch note?

Idk man I saw a talk once where a security guy said most breaches happen from stuff people ignore in patch notes. He was right, apparently. That's a solid catch on your part.

Come on, you read the patch notes because you actually care about every detail? Most of that stuff is just CYA junk that never matters. Finding one legit fix out of a hundred is just confirmation bias, you'd have been fine ignoring it.
