My whole team got hit at a coffee shop in Austin because of one bad USB port.

We were working on a project and someone plugged a phone charger into a public charging station. The next day, three laptops had malware that traced back to that single port. Do you think public USB ports should be avoided completely, or is there a safe way to use them?

That story about the malware from one port is scary. I read an article calling those "juice jacking" attacks. I'd avoid public USB ports and just use a wall plug with your own cable.

Wait, they can do that through a cable?

The FBI put out a warning about juice jacking at airports last year. It's not just stealing data, they can lock your phone with ransomware too. A portable power bank is the only safe option in public now.
