My neighbor's smart doorbell got hacked because he never changed the default password

He told me someone was talking through it to his kids last Tuesday, which is pretty scary. I keep seeing people just plug these things in and never set up a real login. What's the best way to remind folks to do the basic stuff first, like changing factory settings?

Why make such a big deal about passwords? Most people just want their stuff to work right out of the box. If the company shipped it with a password, maybe that's good enough for normal use. Not everyone is a tech expert, and expecting them to change settings just adds stress. The real problem is companies making devices that are so easy to hack in the first place.

Change it or someone else will use your stuff.
