Had to pick between refunding a lady's $80 sweater or giving her store credit - chose wrong
She screamed at me for 15 minutes about a loose thread, so I gave her the refund to shut her up, but then my manager said I should've just done store credit since she buys stuff here every week. Has anyone else gotten stuck between what the customer wants and what your boss expects?

Hate being stuck in that spot, it's like you can't win either way. I mean, the customer's yelling at you in the moment and your boss has a whole different idea of what's best for the store.

Yeah, the 'can't win either way' part really hits home. @iris_stone28, what finally helped me was just saying 'I hear you' to the customer first, then telling my boss later that I had to choose being nice in that moment. It wasn't perfect, but it at least got them both off my back a little.
