The 5 year old digital camera I found at a garage sale for $10

I always thought you needed a thousand dollar setup for decent night sky photos. Then I found an old Canon PowerShot at a garage sale in Portland for 10 bucks. Turns out it had a manual mode and a long exposure setting that worked perfectly for star trails. Anyone else get lucky with a cheap old camera?

Does the PowerShot have a decent manual focus ring or is it all menu digging for that? I had a similar experience with an old Fuji, the star trails came out surprisingly clean for something that cost less than lunch.

Wait, you actually got clean star trails out of one of those?
