Talked to a guy at the shop who switched my whole view on silver age comics

I used to think silver age stuff was just overpriced and campy, but this older collector at Midtown Comics in NYC spent 20 minutes showing me how those old issues shaped every big storyline today. He pulled out a beat-up Amazing Spider-Man #50 and walked me through the Kingpin's first appearance step by step, and it finally clicked why people pay that much. Has anyone else had a random conversation that totally flipped how you read a certain era?

Had some dude at a con explain how golden age capes inspired the whole cowboy genre and my brain just short circuited.

Ngl that guy might’ve been onto something. Think about it: the Lone Ranger basically wears a mask and a cape, fights for justice outside the law, has a secret identity. Even the whole 'serialized adventures' format came from comic strips. Straight pipeline from pulp heroes to matinee cowboys.
