My barista in Austin said a $20 grinder is fine for beginners, but my friend swears you need to spend at least $200.

He argued the cheap one creates uneven grounds that ruin the flavor, but I think that gatekeeps people from even starting. What's the real minimum budget to get a decent cup at home?

What's your current brewing method?

My old roommate used a thrift store blade grinder for years and made coffee I genuinely looked forward to. The real trick was his obsessive focus on getting the water temperature just right.

Honestly, how do you even get the water temp right without a fancy kettle? I used to be so sure you needed a great grinder above everything else. Reading this actually makes a lot of sense though. Maybe I've been focusing on the wrong thing. That control over temperature could matter way more than I gave it credit for. It's kind of changing my whole view on what makes a good cup.
