Rough day at the shop. Boss man said my chamfer was off by 0.003.
Been running this Haas VF-2 for three years now. Thought I had it dialed. But today he pulls out the comparator and shows me a 0.003 deviation on the chamfer edge. That's tiny right? But he's the guy who signs the checks. So I spent two hours rechecking every tool offset and reaming routine. Turns out my insert holder had a burr on the seat. Cleaned it up and it ran perfect. Anyone else get burned by a tiny burr you didn't even see?

What did you clean the burr off with? I read on another forum a guy said he uses a little diamond file for that exact thing and it saves him hours. I tried it once on a scratched up insert holder and it worked way better than I thought. Just a couple light strokes and the seat was smooth again. Good thing you caught it though, those little burrs can mess up your whole run and youd never even see them with just your eyes.

I actually just used a regular old razor blade and tried not to cut myself, which I did anyway, @samf95. Didn't think of a diamond file though, might have to give that a shot next time instead of playing surgeon.

I used to just brush off tiny burrs like that with a rag and call it good, but after getting burned the same way on an old Kennametal holder, I clean every seat like it's a crime scene now.
