My wife, who's a teacher, asked me why I always run the same finish pass on aluminum parts.

She said 'you tell your students to practice new things, but you don't,' and that simple question made me try a different toolpath yesterday that cut my cycle time by 12% on a batch of 50 brackets.

You know what gets me, that line "it takes an outside view to shake things loose." It's true but also kinda funny because your wife probably has no clue what a toolpath even is, she just saw you weren't practicing what you preach. Makes me wonder how many other little things we're all blind to in our own shops.

Ha, that's a great point from your wife.

Man, getting called out by your own family hits different, doesn't it? It's so easy to stick with a proven toolpath and just get the parts out the door. Thompson.finley is right, it's a great point. We get stuck in our own routines and sometimes it takes an outside view to shake things loose. That's a solid win finding that time savings.
