Vent: My $40 'smart' thermostat decided the perfect indoor climate is a tropical 85 degrees... in February.
I came home to a house that felt like a sauna and my heating bill was double the usual. Has anyone else had a gadget rebel against the whole energy-saving mission?

Sounds like your thermostat decided to go on a permanent vacation without you.

Wait, do people actually think their appliances have minds or intentions? I get that it's annoying when stuff breaks at a bad time but a thermostat is just a simple mechanical switch at the end of the day. If mine dies mid-winter it's probably because it's 15 years old and needs replacing, not because it has opinions lol. Appliances fail because of wear and tear or bad parts, not because they're sentient.

My smart fridge once tried to defrost itself in July, total meltdown. These things have a mind of their own sometimes.
