The $14 takeout 3 days in a row thing is so real. I started keeping frozen dumplings and a bag of salad stuff at home for nights I know I'll be too tired to cook, way cheaper than $14 a pop. Don't beat yourself up over the $41 run, that's actually a pretty good haul.

Yeah but just to be clear, the bit catching fire on maple is almost always a feed rate issue, not the bit itself. Maple is a hardwood but its not that crazy dense. If you're pushing too slow and letting the wood burn instead of cutting, even the best bits will overheat and catch. I've used those cheapo big box sets on maple before and yeah they dull fast but catching fire is more about technique. Not saying Whiteside isnt better because it totally is, but that specific problem might come back to bite you.

Just realized how much a bad PSU can fake other symptoms

Ugh, the 11.1v reading is a dead giveaway. I actually keep a digital multimeter in my tool bag now for exactly this reason. The worst part is when you're swapping parts and the system seems to work fine in BIOS or at desktop but crashes as soon as you actually push the GPU or CPU. I had a similar situation where I replaced the whole build's RAM and SSD before I finally tested the rails. Multimeter is cheaper than a new motherboard and way faster than blindly swapping parts. People sleep on how voltage ripple can also cause weird system instability that looks just like a bad driver or memory corruption.
