That solar farm near Augusta got me rethinking my whole stance on renewables
I drove past this big solar installation outside Augusta last month and it was way bigger than I expected. I've always been skeptical about solar because I heard the panels wear out fast and take too much land. But I stopped and talked to the site manager for 10 minutes and he showed me the numbers. They produced enough power last July to cover 5,000 homes on a 200 acre plot. That land used to be a tobacco field that wasn't doing much anyway. He also said the panels have a 30 year warranty and they're already planning to put sheep under them to keep the grass down. So I guess I was wrong about solar being a waste of space. Has anyone else had their mind changed after actually seeing a project in person?

Visiting one in person totally changed my mind too. The numbers just make sense.

Is it really that serious though? One guy giving you a sales pitch after showing you his best numbers doesn't change the big picture. What about cloudy days and winter months or when that 30 year warranty ends and the cost to tear it all out falls on taxpayers?
