Worst day I've had in 8 years was last Tuesday

Had a customer in Boise who hadn't cleaned their chimney since 1993. I pulled out a solid bird nest, three inches of creosote, and a dead raccoon that musta got stuck. Anyone else ever pull something wild out of a flue?

I used to be the kind of person who thought, "it's just a chimney, how bad could it be?" Then a buddy asked me to help with his old farmhouse flue last spring. I pulled out a mess of twigs and something that looked like a very old, very flat squirrel. Your story about the raccoon and the bird nest? That totally changed my mind about just how bad it can get in there. I'll never second-guess someone who says their chimney needs a serious cleaning again.
