Update: my cat quit shredding the couch 2 days after I moved her scratcher next to the window
For 6 months my cat Dana tore up the arm of my IKEA couch every morning around 6am. I put a cardboard scratcher 10 feet away in a corner and she basically ignored it. Then 2 days ago I dragged that same scratcher right up against the window where she watches birds, and she has not touched the couch since. Turns out she wanted to scratch where the action was, not in some dead corner. Has anyone else had luck just moving the scratcher instead of buying a new one?
