Rant: My cat's sudden fear of the hallway took 8 months to fix, and I'm still not sure what finally worked.
I'm torn between thinking it was the new calming plug-in diffuser I got last month or if my cat just finally got over a random bad memory from last fall, so what's the longest a weird cat fear has lasted for you guys?

Oh, eight months is nothing. My old tabby was scared of the living room rug for almost two years after a balloon popped near it. Honestly, it was probably a mix of the diffuser and time that did it for your cat. They just get these ideas stuck in their heads.

Right? They fixate on the weirdest things. My cat still gives the vacuum cleaner side-eye from that one time three years ago, totally get what bettyl37 is saying.

Yeah, they really do get ideas stuck in their heads, just like @bettyl37 said. My friend's dog still won't walk past the mailbox where a trash bag blew into him once. It's wild how long that stuff lasts.
