Feliway diffuser made me eat my words about cat calming products

I spent 6 months calling those plug-in calming diffusers a scam after my tabby scratched up every corner of my couch in Austin. Then my vet swapped me a free refill after a checkup and said to try it for 3 weeks before judging. Has anyone else seen a real shift in spraying behavior after giving one of these a fair shot, or was my cat just going through a weird phase?
