Overheard a flight attendant say 'weigh your bag like it's a brick' and it clicked

That "weigh it like a brick" line is perfect because it kills the whole guessing game. I usually just grab the bag and do a quick bounce in my hand, if it feels heavier than a full gallon of milk, I know I'm in trouble. Better to overpack a small carry-on and wear your heavy coat than to argue at the gate.
