Watched a guy mark a whole sheet of plywood with just a speed square and a pencil

I've been using a framing square and a chalk line for every single layout for years. He did it in half the time and his cuts were just as straight. How many other little time savers am I missing out on?

Honestly, that speed square trick is a game changer. I felt the same way when I saw a guy use a carpenters pencil to mark a whole deck layout without a tape measure, just using the square's scale. My mind was blown. Tbh, it's the little things like that you pick up over time that shave off so many wasted minutes.

Yeah, we all have that one tool we use like a security blanket. I was the same with my chalk line until I saw the speed square method. Now I feel like I've been doing everything the hard way for no reason.

Man, isn't it wild how you can do a task for years and never question it? I had that exact feeling watching an old timer use a speed square to find a rafter length once. @miles_campbell39 is totally right about those little tricks saving so much time. It makes you wonder what else you're doing the long way around just because it's how you learned.
