PSA: My eco-audit presentation got weird when I used a banana peel as a prop.
It started attracting flies and the CEO just nodded like it was part of the plan.

Did you consider just rolling with it and saying the flies were unpaid interns? My best prop fails are when I try too hard to be creative and it backfires so bad. That CEO nod is the universal sign for "I have no clue what's happening but I'm pretending it's fine". At least your presentation had a live demonstration of decomposition rates, mine just had a sad wilted basil plant.

You mentioning the CEO nod thing is spot on. I see this all the time where people in charge just roll with the chaos to save face. It's like a survival tactic in modern work life. Like when a server crashes during a big client meeting and the IT guy calmly says 'just as expected' while sweating bullets. Or in school, when a projector fails and the professor starts lecturing from memory like it's a test of attention. We've all learned to pretend confusion is part of the plan, but it just makes everything more awkward.

Actually, that calm front can sometimes stop a panic from spreading. Watching someone stay cool under pressure helps everyone else chill out a bit too. It's a weird skill, but it has its place.
