My old boss in Phoenix told me to never take a counteroffer.

Got a new job offer for 15k more last month, my current company matched it. Took the match, got laid off three weeks later. Anyone been through this before?

My friend had the same thing happen after accepting a counteroffer. They kept him just long enough to find a cheaper replacement. It's a brutal lesson to learn the hard way.

Yeah that's exactly why I'm so scared of counteroffers. I mean, it feels like they're just buying time to replace you without any trouble. It's messed up how often that happens. Makes you wonder if staying is ever worth it after you've already decided to leave.
