I dropped $500 on a career coach and got totally burned

Paid this guy in Denver $500 for a 3 session package to fix my resume and job search strategy. All he did was tell me to network more and handed me a generic template from 2019. Has anyone actually gotten their money's worth from one of these coaches or am I just unlucky?

My friend in Austin paid $400 for a coach named Sarah who was supposed to help her pivot from retail to tech. The coach spent two sessions talking about her own startup that failed and then gave her a LinkedIn photo tip that made her look like she was in a hostage situation. She ended up finding a better job by just googling "tech resume examples" and copying the format.

Talked to this guy in Chicago who paid $600 for a career coach specializing in creative fields. Coach told him to "follow his passion" for three sessions and then tried to upsell him on a $2000 branding package. He ended up using the exact same resume he had before and got hired. @rileygonzalez, your friend's story about the LinkedIn photo is hilarious. That Sarah lady sounds like she needed a career coach herself.
