Quick chat with a dispatcher last week totally shifted how I look at routes

Guy told me he plans for a 30 minute buffer on every load because he'd rather sit at a truck stop than explain a late delivery to a dealer. Has anyone else changed their whole planning setup after one conversation?

30 minute buffer is rookie numbers honestly. My guy runs a whole two hour floater on every route and he never stresses about anything. Changed my whole mindset about running tight just to save five minutes.

Wait, do you actually run a solid two hour buffer on every single route though @kevin_adams? I tried that once and ended up sitting in a truck stop for an hour and a half because I was so early. That kills your drive time for the day and eats into your miles. I keep a 30 minute cushion max and use the extra time to grab an extra load if dispatch offers one. Two hours might make you feel relaxed but it's costing you money on every single run you take.
