Changed my view on folding stools after a soggy seat disaster!
I thought folding stools were pointless extra gear. On a recent trip, I left mine behind to pack light. I picked a flat rock to sit on near the creek. It was slick with moss and I slid right into the water! My friends laughed as I fished my phone out of my pocket. Now I bring a stool and it keeps me dry and happy. That silly fall totally turned me around on this piece of kit!
But isn't that just trading one problem for another? Now you have to lug that extra weight and fiddle with setting it up... I'd rather get a little wet sometimes than be weighed down by gear for a trip that's supposed to be simple. A wet seat is a five minute annoyance, but extra stuff is a hassle all day long.
