Swore off heat guns for peeling leatherette until a guy in Duluth showed me his $12 embossing tool
Tried it on a sticky Nikon F3 grip last month and the covering came off in one clean sheet with zero goo left behind, so now I want to know what other cheap non camera tools you all are hiding.
Man, I feel your pain on those grips. I fought with a Canon A-1 last winter and the old leatherette just crumbled into sticky little bits that got everywhere. Spent an hour with rubbing alcohol and a plastic scraper and still had residue in the seams. That embossing tool trick sounds like a lifesaver, I might dig around my wife's craft stuff and see if she has one.
