Pro tip: I just learned the average digital SLR shutter is rated for 150k clicks, not 100k.
Found this in a service manual for a Canon 5D Mark III I was fixing last week, buried in the tech notes section. It totally changes how I talk to customers about camera lifespan and when a shutter swap is really needed. How many of you guys have seen this in other models, or is it just a Canon thing?

Oh wow, that's a huge difference. I always quote the 100k number to be safe, but maybe I should start checking the actual service docs for each model. Have you found this holds true for the older bodies too?

Checking the service docs is smart, @thomas.viola. My old 5D Mark II manual says 150k for the shutter, which already beats that common 100k guess. It really shows how much it varies by model, even back then.
