Just trashed $80 on a 'factory refurbished' shutter assembly

Picked up a shutter assembly for a Nikon FM from a seller on eBay. Looked clean in the photos and they claimed it was tested. Installed it this morning and the curtain timing is off by a full stop at 1/1000. Spent 2 hours trying to adjust it before I realized the whole thing is warped. Now I'm out the money and the time. Anyone know a reliable source for NOS shutters that aren't junk?

Check if the issue is the seller's return policy not matching what you assumed. I got burned on a "tested" Canon FTb mirror bumper once - said no returns on installed parts. But eBay's money back guarantee covers items not as described, even for cameras. You might be able to file a claim if the listing said "tested" but the part was clearly warped. Also try joining a local camera repair forum like the Classic Camera Repair group on Facebook - those guys sometimes have stashes of NOS Nikon stuff they're willing to let go for the cost of shipping. I scored a perfect F2 shutter set from a guy in Texas that way.

I mean, those Facebook groups can be hit or miss, some folks just hoard parts and never actually sell them.
