Just realized the new plastic shutter gears on that popular mirrorless model are failing after about 18 months.

I've seen three come through the shop this month with the same stripped teeth. Has anyone found a good source for the metal replacement part yet?

My old DSLR from 2010 has metal gears that are still fine, but I guess my modern camera is on borrowed time. I haven't found a source for the metal part yet, just the same plastic one. It feels like we're all just waiting for our number to come up. I'm starting to baby the heck out of my shutter button, which is ridiculous. Maybe we should start a support group for people afraid to take photos.

Took my old film camera apart last year for a similar gear issue. Found a machinist in my city who made a one-off brass gear for me from the old plastic part. It cost more than I wanted to pay, but that camera works perfectly now. You might try asking at a local machine shop or a repair place that works on older gear, they sometimes have contacts.
