Had a customer bring in a Leica M3 with a stuck shutter, said he fixed it himself with WD-40
This was at my shop in Austin about two months ago. The guy was really proud he got the curtain moving again, but the whole inside was a sticky mess. I had to tell him that stuff gums up over time and attracts more dust. He argued it was a 'quick fix' and better than paying for a full service. Honestly, how do you guys handle these DIY repair conversations without making the customer feel dumb?

I used to think quick fixes were fine too, until I saw what WD-40 does to a camera's insides later on.

Did he think that was a permanent fix?

Yeah "permanent fix" lol. @allen.ruby that's the whole thing, right? Some people just don't get that a quick spray is never a real solution. It might seem fine for a week, but then it gums everything up way worse than before. You're just trading a small problem now for a huge, broken mess later. It's like putting tape on a leaky pipe and being shocked when the wall rots out.
