Just ran the numbers on my shop waste and it's worse than I thought

I finally added up how much hardwood I've been tossing as cutoff scraps over the last 6 months. Turns out it's about 40% of every board foot I buy, which at current cherry prices is around $4 a board foot going in the trash. Most of it is pieces under 10 inches that I just don't have a use for. Anyone else dealing with this much waste or am I just being sloppy with my layouts?

Are you actually making any jigs or small boxes with those scraps?

Not really, mostly just offcuts that are too small for anything useful. Are you actually getting a decent yield out of those 2-foot rips or is it mostly dust city?
