Rant: The pork bellies from our main supplier went from perfect to flabby in just three months.

They switched their finishing feed to a cheaper corn mix in late spring, and now the fat is so soft it tears when I'm trying to skin them, so has anyone else had to find a new source this year?

That's wild they changed the feed that fast. Three months is no time at all to see such a drop. Flabby fat that tears during skinning is a total deal breaker, ruins the whole product. You can't work with that. Makes you wonder what else they cut corners on. Hope you find a better supplier soon, that sounds like a nightmare to deal with.

Did they change the transport or holding conditions too? A sudden shift like that makes me wonder if the pigs are getting stressed before processing now. Heat stress from a bad truck ride or holding pen can mess with fat quality just as much as feed. Maybe they're cutting costs on animal handling, not just the corn.
