Tried a minimalist weekly layout vs. my usual elaborate monthly spread

I got fed up with spending over two hours each Sunday setting up my weekly spread with washi tape borders and tiny habit trackers. So I tried one of those super simple layouts I see people post here, just a line for each day with space for tasks and a tiny notes section. Honestly it felt boring at first, like I was cheating or something. But after three weeks I realized I was actually using the dang thing more because I wasn't burning out on setup. The old fancy version looked nice but I'd ignore it by Tuesday. Now I'm sticking with the minimalist one, though I do miss the stickers a little. Has anyone else switched to a simpler layout and felt weird about it at first?

I mean idk, I actually found that the fancy setup kept me more accountable because I looked forward to interacting with it. The bare bones one just felt like another chore list and I started ignoring it by Wednesday.

Doesn't it feel like everything in life either has to be a game or a chore these days? There's no middle ground where something can just be useful without needing bells and whistles to keep us interested.

It's funny how that pattern shows up everywhere actually... I noticed my friend started buying those expensive pre-portioned meal kits because regular grocery shopping felt too boring and then she quit after a month because the novelty wore off. Meanwhile I'm over here just buying the same five vegetables on auto-pilot and actually cooking every night. The whole thing reminds me of how people buy fancy gym clothes thinking it'll make them excited to work out but then the excitement fades and you're just left with the workout anyway. The stuff that actually sticks is usually the stuff that doesn't need to be dressed up to keep your attention.
