Tried booking a bus in Guatemala through a random site, got burned

Last month I used some discount aggregator for a ticket from Antigua to Lake Atitlan and ended up waiting 4 hours for a bus that never showed. Has anyone else had luck just showing up at the terminal instead of booking online?

It's like everything now has an app for something that used to be way simpler, you just end up chasing phantom buses. I stopped using those middleman sites after I tried to "reserve" a spot on a ferry in Thailand and got bounced to three different docks. Just rolling up to the terminal feels risky but at least you know right away if you're actually getting on or need to find Plan B. Sometimes the old way is still the fastest way, even if it means standing in a dust cloud for twenty minutes.

evah40, you're trading a system that gives you live updates for standing in a dust cloud hoping a bus shows up. The app might bounce you around but at least you can adjust from your couch instead of wasting an afternoon at a terminal with no backup plan.
