A free walking tour in Lisbon saved my trip after a bad hostel mix-up
Last Tuesday, I got to my booked hostel in Lisbon and they had no record of my reservation. I had to find a new place fast, which cost me an extra $60. The next morning, I joined a free walking tour from the main square just to clear my head. The guide showed us hidden spots and cheap local eats I never would have found on my own. Has anyone else had a backup plan like a free tour turn a bad travel day around?

It's funny how the best fixes are often the simplest ones (and free). I've had similar things happen, not just traveling, but when a plan falls apart at home. Grabbing a coffee and just walking a new neighborhood can reset a whole bad day. It forces you to pay attention to small things you'd normally miss.

Sometimes the best fix is just getting out of your own head. A free tour forces you to listen to someone else's story for a while. It's like hitting pause on your own problems. You stop worrying about the money or the mess up and just follow along. That mental break can be what actually lets you figure out the next step.
