That cheap rice cooker I laughed at is now my best friend
My buddy gave me a $12 rice cooker from a garage sale last month and I was ready to roast him for it. I've always just used a pot on the stove and thought rice cookers were a waste of counter space. After burning two batches of rice in a row during a busy week, I pulled it out of the closet and it made perfect rice in 20 minutes with zero effort. Now I'm making lentil bowls and oatmeal in it too, and it's saved me about $30 a week on takeout. Has anyone else been shocked by how good a cheap appliance actually works?

My $15 rice cooker from Walmart made a believer out of me too. I was always a "just use a pot" person and thought they were a gimmick. Then I got one on a whim and it's been going strong for two years now, making perfect rice every time without me having to watch it. I even use it to steam dumplings sometimes, which I never would have guessed would work.
