My grocery bill dropped $40 a week after I started buying frozen veggies instead of fresh

I used to grab fresh broccoli and spinach every week at Giant Eagle, but they'd go bad by Wednesday. Switched to frozen bags about two months ago and I'm not wasting food anymore. Anyone else make this swap and notice a big difference in their budget?

Wait, are you talking about just plain frozen veggies or the ones with seasoning or butter sauce too? I find that makes a big difference in how much we actually use them, you know? Also, do you cook them different from fresh or just toss 'em in the same recipes? Because I tried switching to frozen broccoli once and it got way too mushy in the stir-fry I was making (maybe my fault, though).

Oh definitely the plain frozen ones are the way to go I think, @karenf40. Those preseasoned or sauced ones seem convenient but I feel like they end up just sitting in the freezer because they don't match what you're actually cooking that night. It's like this whole cycle where you buy them thinking you'll use them more but you actually use them less because they're too specific. For the stir-fry thing though, that's totally not your fault plain frozen broccoli just needs a different treatment. You gotta either thaw it first and squeeze out the extra water or roast it straight from frozen so the moisture cooks off instead of steaming it soggy in a pan. It's wild how one little change like cooking method can make or break whether you actually end up eating the veggies or just letting them turn into ice cubes in the back of the freezer.
