My cousin's weekly 'fridge cleanout' stew keeps everyone fed for days
I've seen my cousin start making a big pot of stew every Sunday using whatever veggies are left from the week. She tosses in carrots, onions, even the bits of celery that usually get thrown out. It simmers all afternoon with some cheap broth and whatever meat was on sale. That one pot gives her family of four dinners for at least two nights, plus lunches. Her kids actually look forward to seeing what ends up in it each time. It's a simple way to use up food before it goes bad and spend less at the store.

Honestly the "bits of celery that get thrown out" part is so real. I started freezing carrot peels and celery ends in a bag to make vegetable stock later, it saves a ton. Really cuts down on waste and makes the next soup taste way better.

Good call on the freezer bag method. I toss in onion ends and potato peels too. After a month, there's enough for a big pot of stock. Saves a trip to the store for broth.

Freezer bags for scraps really do work wonders. I started doing this a while back and it's saved me so many trips to the store. But I've been wondering, do you ever add herb stems or garlic skins to the bag? I've heard mixed things about whether they add good flavor or just bitterness. Also, how do you deal with the stock turning out too salty if you use scraps from pre seasoned veggies?
