Switched from craft foam to cardboard for my armor build

I was dead set on using craft foam for my Mandalorian armor but the sheets cost me $30 just for a chest piece. Tried a cardboard mockup first and honestly after painting and sealing it looks just as good for $0. Has anyone else had luck with cardboard holding up at conventions?

My first cardboard build was a pair of gauntlets for a steampunk costume and I coated them in a mix of white glue and water, then hit them with metallic spray paint. They survived two full days at Dragon Con with me bumping into tables and people and only got a small dent I just pressed back out. Can't beat free materials when you're broke and want to look good at a con.

Right? That glue and water trick is basically duct tape for cosplay lol. It's funny how the stuff we think is trash always pulls through when you actually need it. Real life's taught me cheap fixes work way better than fancy stuff most of the time.
