My cardboard Mandalorian helmet turned into a pancake at the con

I spent three days building this Boba Fett bucket out of cereal boxes and hot glue, got it painted perfect. Walked into the convention center in Phoenix, took it off for a second to grab my badge, and some guy backed his prop cart right over it. It made this awful crunch sound and just flattened, lmao. Had to walk around the rest of the day holding a sad, folded piece of cardboard. Anyone got a better material for helmets that won't cost me fifty bucks?

That crunch sound must have been heartbreaking after all that work. Seriously, a prop cart? Who just backs over someone's stuff like that. Have you looked into EVA foam floor mats from a hardware store? They're cheap, you can heat and shape them, and they can take a hit way better than cardboard. What kind of tools do you already have for building?

Ugh, that crunch is the worst sound... I used foam floor mats for a helmet build and they saved me. A cheap heat gun from the craft store lets you bend them into shape, and a sharp box cutter is all you really need to start. They're way more forgiving than cardboard when something gets bumped.
