Update: Walked into a local Edward Jones office in Springfield for a quick question

I was there to ask about a rollover, and the guy at the desk spent maybe ten minutes just talking about their firm's history and awards before getting to my question. It felt like a sales pitch more than help. Has anyone else run into that kind of scripted intro when you just wanted a straight answer?

Ugh, that's the worst! I had the same thing happen at a different branch. I just wanted to know their fee on something simple, and the advisor launched into this whole story about the founder. Felt like I was in a time-share presentation, not a financial office. Does that canned speech ever actually work on people?

Man, I used to think that kind of formal intro showed they were professional. Then I went in for a basic Roth IRA question and got the same history lesson. It clicked for me when I realized they spent more time on their awards than on my actual tax situation. Now it just feels like a filter to see who will sit through the pitch.

Right? I used to fall for that too. Then I noticed they all have the same script and it's never about what you actually need.
