Switched brokers after a 3-month nightmare with hidden fees
I used to stick with my old broker just because I was comfortable with the app (you know, lazy). After they hit me with $45 in surprise fees for a single trade last November, I moved to a flat-fee broker in January and saved $120 so far. Has anyone else dealt with a broker that changed their fee structure out of the blue?

Man, I feel this so hard. I actually read a piece on Morningstar last week about how some brokers are quietly sneaking in fee changes because they know people get complacent with their apps. That $45 surprise sounds brutal, mine was a $30 "inactivity fee" I didn't even know existed until my statement came. It's frustrating because you think you're being smart by sticking with a brand you know, but they just take advantage of that trust. How did you find the flat fee broker, any good resources for comparing them?

NerdWallet and Investopedia have decent comparison tools if you dig past their sponsored listings. I literally just googled "low fee brokers reddit" and found some threads where people break down their actual statements. That's how I landed on mine, saw someone post a screenshot of their fees and it matched what I was looking for.
