Lost $500 on a 'no fee' broker that just vanished

I tried a new online broker called 'TradeEase' last month because their ads said zero commission and no hidden fees. I put in $500 to start with, just to test it out. The platform looked fine at first, but when I tried to pull my money out after a small loss, nothing happened. Their support email bounced back, the phone number was disconnected, and the website went offline a few days later. I checked online and found a few other people saying the same thing happened to them. It's gone, and I'm out that cash. It felt like a real company, but I guess it was just set up to take small deposits from a bunch of people. Has anyone else run into a broker that just disappeared like this? How do you even check if they're legit before you sign up?

Man, that's brutal. I mean, it feels like this stuff is everywhere now, not just with brokers. You order some weird gadget from an online ad or sign up for a service with a flashy website, and poof, it's just gone with your money. It's getting harder to tell what's real. I always try to dig for real user reviews outside the company's own site now, but even that isn't a sure thing.

Yeah, reminds me of a fake moving company that took my deposit.
