My mortar mix went soupy on a chimney repair in Denver last Thursday because I misjudged the humidity.

I had to quickly add more sand and lime to save the batch, but has anyone else found a good trick for adjusting on really damp days?

Check your sand before you even start mixing. Was it stored outside or in a bag that could have soaked up moisture? I've been burned by damp sand more than once, and it throws the whole water ratio off from the jump.

Yep, dried mine in the oven once.
