Used to force myself through every book like it was a job I hated
Back when I was younger I'd finish a book even if it was awful, like that 800 page fantasy series where nothing happened until page 600. Now I give a book about 50 pages, if it doesn't grab me I toss it aside and grab another. I think it changed when my wife pointed out I was wasting two weeks on something I complained about every night. What made you finally start quitting books you weren't into?

Wait, 800 pages of nothing happening before page 600? How did you survive that?

idk honestly, by that point I was just reading out of spite. Like, I had already invested like 40 hours into this book, so I was basically trapped in a toxic relationship with it. I kept telling myself "it's gotta get good eventually, right?" and then it just... didn't. By page 750 I was literally speed reading just to finish, not even paying attention to words, just turning pages like my life depended on it. Honestly, I've made better life choices like eating gas station sushi at 2am. So yeah, I survived by turning into a zombie reader who just needed closure on the plot, even if the plot was basically a nap.
