Our book club debate exploded over a disastrous chocolate cake recipe

Last month, we chose a baking memoir for our read. I volunteered to make the chocolate cake from the book. It sank in the middle like a crater. Instead of talking about the author's life, we argued about oven temperatures for an hour. We finally laughed it off and ate the mess with ice cream.

My sister still brings up the three layer cake I made that looked like a stack of pancakes. Total kitchen fail but now it's a family joke we tell every Thanksgiving. Those messed up recipes are like glue for group memories. Honestly the lopsided ones taste better with the right amount of shame and ice cream.
