My book club debate about character motivation got way too personal
Last Tuesday at the Maple Street library, I argued that the main character's actions were selfish and someone in the group took it as a personal attack on their own life choices. She started crying and a few people walked out before we even got to chapter discussion. How do you handle it when a debate about a fictional character hits too close to home for a member?

Did the book club ever talk about starting with a trigger warning before diving into the heavy stuff? Might save some tears and awkward walkouts next time.
