Appreciation post: The guy who showed me shutter speed on a park bench

I was in Central Park last fall trying to take a pic of a squirrel and it just looked like a blurry blob. This older dude sitting on a bench saw me getting frustrated and asked what I was shooting with. He just said 'your shutter is too slow, bump it up to 1/500 and try again.' I did and the squirrel came out crystal clear. Has anyone else had a random stranger help them out with a camera setting?

Jumped in here because I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Was at a landscape spot near the Hudson and some guy just walked over and said "you're shooting wide open, stop down to f/8 and your whole scene will be sharp." Changed my whole morning. It's funny how one little tweak can turn a frustrating session into something you're actually proud of.
