Finally read that book with the infamous ending and wow I was wrong

I spent 2 years avoiding 'The Memory Police' because everyone said the ending was too vague and frustrating. But I gave it a shot last week and honestly the open ending felt PERFECT for the story's theme of loss and forgetting. Did anyone else have a book they avoided for ages only to find the ending actually clicked for you?

Dude, I totally get that. I avoided "The Left Hand of Darkness" for the same reason, but the political stuff actually made the ending hit harder for me. It's wild how we can let other people's opinions scare us off from something that might click perfectly. That's awesome that you gave it a shot anyway, sometimes you just gotta trust your own gut over the hype or hate, lol.

Finally read that book with the infamous ending" is exactly what I said after putting off "The Left Hand of Darkness" for years because everyone warned about the long political stuff. Turns out the whole ending was just people sitting around talking and I loved it. What other books did you dodge for dumb reasons?
