The time I forgot my birth mom's birthday and the phone call that followed

I was at a grocery store in Omaha last June when I realized I missed my birth mother's birthday by three days. I froze in the produce aisle holding a bag of apples, feeling like the worst person alive. I called her from the parking lot and apologized, and she just laughed and said she figured I'd call when I was ready. Has anyone else had that moment where you forget something important and then panic about how to fix it?

That's rough, man. Sounds like you really beat yourself up over it but your mom handled it way better than most would. My aunt went through something similar last year with her dad's birthday and spent the whole day panicking before finally calling. Turns out he hadn't even noticed, which made her feel kind of silly but also relieved. It's weird how we build up these moments in our head way worse than they actually play out.

My mom's birthday was three weeks ago and I forgot until my sister texted me at 10pm. I just called her the next morning and said hey sorry I dropped the ball. She laughed and said she almost forgot too so it was fine. I think the main thing is just calling and not making it a big deal. People mostly care that you reached out, not when you did it. Once you rip off the bandaid and make the call you realize how simple it actually is.
