At the hospital's 'Family Connections' group, another mom asked me point blank 'what do you need RIGHT NOW?'

That "point blank" question sounds like the most helpful thing anyone could ask.

Used to hate that kind of direct question. Felt like a trap, like I had to have the right answer ready. Then my kid was in for a long stay and a nurse just asked me for one small thing, a charger from my car. Broke the whole thing open. Now I see it's the only way to get real help.

Yeah I'm still the worst at that. I mean, ask me what I need and my brain just goes blank like I'm taking a pop quiz I didn't study for.
